North Norfolk Cottage near Pub – Oaktree

Is there any wonder that many holiday listing sites allow you to look for properties near a pub? Not everyone wants to cook after a hard day’s sight-seeing, and the appeal of a pub with a cosy fire on an autumnal evening in undeniable!

There are some great pubs within walking distance of Oaktree Cottage, with others just a short drive away.

Literally around the corner is the Three Horseshoes. It’s about a three minute walk, so far enough not to be a disturbance, but close enough to easily walk to. We’ve had many great meals there, and judging by the comments in our guestbook, many of our guests have enjoyed it too.

Slightly further away, but still in Briston Village, is the Explorers Bar, which is more of a traditional pub, serving traditional pub grub. Some of the lanes on the shortest route to the Explorers’ are unlit, so you’ll need to take one of the cottage torches or use you phone torch if you plan to return after dark.

If you fancy more of a walk for a well earned lunch, then both the Huworth Bell and the Three Pigs are ‘walkable’ – but it’s a bit more of a hike. Of course both are extremely accessible if you’re driving.

To get to the Huworth Bell (still known locally us the Hunny Bell), don’t follow the shortest route if you’re walking, as the Holt Road out of Briston has no pavements, is quite twisty, and is relatively busy. Instead follow the back lanes to Stody, then from Stody to Hunworth where you’ll emerge right by the pub. The total distance is about 2.5 miles each way.

The Three Pigs is similar distance, though the walk is on slightly busier roads, and not such a pretty walk, but still quite a pleasant stroll.
